History made on Saturday as the Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji boys soccer team notched its first trip to the Class 2A state tournament with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Spencer in the substate finals. SLP-O trailed 1-0 early until sophomore Kade Heikens connected on an equalizer before the half. It remained tied until junior Zubeen Azari came through with a clutch goal in traffic for the win. Keith Oskvig kept the win in tact with a remarkable save off a Tigers’ free kick.

Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji will make it’s first ever appearance at the state tournament on Thursday, when they take on Grinnell at 2:30 in Des Moines. SLP-O enters the championship bracket with a 14-4 record and will be the seventh seed, while Grinnell brings a 16-3 mark and is the overall No. 2 seed.

The Get Up & Go Show will talk with coach Bill Cochran-Bray and several players before they leave town on Thursday morning.
